Pack for a Purpose when coming to Onsea House

During their first trip to Africa, Scott and Rebecca Rothney learned that while they were limited to 20kg of luggage on safari, the airline had an allowance of 100 pounds (45 kgs) of checked luggage plus a 40 pound (18.14 kg) carry-on. In making plans for a second trip, they looked into visiting a school near the lodge they would visit. They contacted their safari company to see if they could determine any specific needs of that school. Armed with that information, they were able to deliver 140 pounds (64 kgs) of school supplies, including soccer balls, to the school. It was enormously rewarding to be able to help the people in the community that had given them such a life-changing experience. That’s how the idea for the Pack for a Purpose website came up.

Onsea House is currently one of the only 11 properties in Tanzania that joined the Pack for a Purpose. With your help, you can make the life better of more than 1400 children of the Baraa Primary School, located within walking distance from Onsea House in Arusha.

Frommer’s top pick in Arusha

Frommer’s Travel Guides are one of the bestselling guidebooks in the USA. The series began in 1957 with the publication of Arthur Frommer’s first book. The latest entry in this popular series of travel guides contains full-color fold-out maps, suggested itineraries, and frank reviews of recommended sites to visit.

Frommer’s Kenya & Tanzania claims to be the only major guidebook to cover both of these countries in detail. A lot of international tourists arriving in Tanzania come from Kenya, so the convenience of having one book for both countries is a significant selling point.

Written by a trio of writers, two of whom currently live in Africa and a third who lived in Tanzania for years, Frommer’s has opinionated write-ups. No bland descriptions and lukewarm recommendations. The expert writers are passionate about their destinations–tell it like it is in an engaging and helpful way. We are therefore very pleased that Onsea House is Frommer’s top pick in the Arusha hotels section. Also the intimate candle-lit terrace at Onsea House is described as Arusha’s finest dining experience in the Arusha restaurant section.

Luxurious Mobile Safari Experience in East Africa

Singita Grumeti Reserves has launched a one-of-a-kind luxury tented safari, ideal for small groups or families, in its expansive Tanzania reserve. Beginning November 2010, guests can overnight under the stars in mobile accommodations styled after the charm and romanticism of Africa’s bygone days.

Nestled between the Serengeti National Park and the Maasai Mara, the mobile safari offers access to remote and unspoiled African bush, where one can truly experience the majesty of nature. Big five game viewing is unmatched. Similar as in Onsea House, dining is a highlight, in this case simply crafted, fresh cuisine in the bush along with a choice of fine, hand-picked wines. When it comes time to turn in for the night, guests can relax and unwind in luxurious, comfortable tents.

The mobile safari is designed for exclusive use by groups of between six and twelve people for two or more nights. The all-inclusive price is $8,100 per night for a party of six and $1,350 per night for each additional guest. For the ultimate safari experience, any visit can easily be combined with a stay at one of Singita Grumeti Reserves’ three other luxurious properties: flagship Singita Sasakwa Lodge, contemporary Singita Faru Faru Lodge on the Grumeti River, and the 1920s styled Singita Sabora Tented Camp.

Jane Goodall’s 50 years in the jungle

Tonight Jane Goodall joins close friends and donors at The Royal Institution Library in London to celebrate 50 years of groundbreaking research at Gombe. Supporters will be asked to join the Jane Goodall Foundation in ensuring the next 50 years of Jane’s vision is secured through their financial contributions.

Onsea House Tanzania is contributing in the 50 years celebrations by offering a stay at Onsea House in Arusha for the auction.

Half a century has elapsed since Goodall leapt to prominence with her remarkable study of chimpanzees.
Harvested from patient observation of a chimpanzee colony in Gombe, Tanzania, her insights smashed stereotypes of chimps as circus animals or cuddly toys.
The primates were revealed as smart and socially complex, able to organise their community and use tools: in other words, they were a lot like us. The divide between Homo sapiens and Pan troglodytes became blurred forever.

Read more about Jane Goodall’s work on one of the many JCI local websites.
Contact info@onseahouse.com if you would like to discover the work of Jane Goodall at Gombe National Park and visit the chimps combined with a stay at Onsea House in Arusha.
