Reviews of luxury retreat in Arusha

Many honeymooners, romantic couples or small families still do not find Onsea House in Arusha yet when they want to book an intimate luxury honeymoon safari, spa, villa or lodge retreat in Arusha or Tanzania in general.

Onsea House has however received excellent reviews in Lonely Planet, Rough Guide and on several websites. With 20 million reviews and opinions of properties around the world, TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel community, is the source travellers trust most. Due to the extreme small size of our operations, we however get only few reviews compared to bigger hotels and are also listed in the B&B category instead of the more obvious hotel category. Taking all this into account, Onsea House is in fact the best reviewed place in Arusha.

&BEYOND new name for luxury lodges CC Africa

Luxury lodge and adventure travel company CC Africa (Conservation Corporation Africa) currently owns and operates numerous lodges in Africa and in India, and is soon to welcome guests to another corner of the globe – Latin America. As such the company has changed its name to &BEYOND to more appropriately reflect where and how it operates.

The new name was launched on the 1st of November and our new agent Dorien Onsea was witness of the launch, while staying at &BEYOND Grumeti Serengeti Safari Camp. A new website www.andbeyond.com to encompass both the lodge and travel components of the business has been one of the major projects of the renaming.

Exporting their successful luxury responsible tourism model out of Africa has provided the company with the perfect opportunity to reassess their brand needs and to change their current name to one that evokes the notion of luxury adventure travel to many more beautiful wilderness places on the planet.

&BEYOND’s commitment to responsible sustainable travel, a practice that has enabled them to make small but meaningful differences to their world and to that of their guests, will remain at the core of &BEYOND’s rollout to exciting new regions and countries.

In other developments the company opened two new lodges in Botswana in August: &BEYOND Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge and &BEYOND Xaranna Okavango Tented Camp. Two additional lodges, Banjaar Tola and Pashan Garh, both in the central Madhya Pradesh province in India, are to open later this year.

Over and above opportunities in Peru, Brazil, Ecuador and Costa Rica, the group has further exciting developments in the pipeline for Africa, too, including Tanzania, Kenya and Madagascar.

The Swahili House opens her doors in Zanzibar

After months of renovation, The Swahili House will open her doors in the first half of 2009.
Located in the bustling heart of Stonetown the building was originally set up and used as an Indian Merchant House in the 19th century. In the 125 years that were to come the building was home to one of the many Sultan families and then became a hotel some years ago. The hotel has been purchased by the Moivaro group of Hotels Lodges and camps and renovations started in May 2008. Most of the hotel has been restored into its original state. The result is The Swahili House, a hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities in combination with authentic Swahili hospitality.

The Swahili House has 5 floors that are all built around a court yard – an ideal spot to enjoy a quiet moment away from busy Stonetown life. The floors are all accessible via traditional Zanzibari Staircases and an elevator.  22 rooms are spread out over 4 floors and can be divided in 3 different room categories:
Sultan Suites – large, spacious rooms with balcony. Approx. 45m2;
Suites: medium sized spacious rooms with balcony. Approx. 33m2;
Deluxe Rooms: standard sized double or twin room. Approx. 21m2;
The rooms all are restored and decorated in traditional Swahili style, but adjusted to Western standards, which for example includes European sized mattresses, air conditioning and a fan. Most rooms feature a spectacular open bathroom including a shower and bath, which are ideally to relax after a busy day of exploring Stonetown and its many treasures.
The Swahili House would definitely not be the same without the rooftop terrace which houses a bar, restaurant and a very relaxing Jacuzzi overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Contact info@onseahouse.com if you would like to include a stay at Swahili House and the sister hotel Fumba Beach or other Moivaro properties in your Zanzibar or safari holidays in Tanzania while using Onsea House as homebase in Arusha.

Moevenpick and Holiday Inn 5 star hotels in Arusha

Moevenpick Royal Palm hotel Dar es Salaam plans to construct a new hotel that commands a high international standard in Arusha region, according to Daily News.

This news published on June 16 got confirmed in an official press release from Moevenpick on June 27, 2008 – A new Mövenpick Resort is to be built near Arusha, Tanzania, by 2011. A management agreement has just been signed with the owning company, Taninvest Group of Companies. The Swiss international hotel chain has been present in Tanzania since 2005, with the award-winning Mövenpick Royal Palm Hotel Dar es Salaam now one of the leading hotels in the country.

“With its hotel in Dar es Salaam, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has made an excellent name for itself, one which stands for high quality standards, uncompromising service and culinary expertise”, explains Paul Lyimo, the owner of Taninvest Group of Companies. “We are in no doubt that we shall also establish those core values in Arusha, and we look forward to a fruitful co-operation.”

The new Mövenpick Resort Arusha lies at the foot of Mount Meru on a 100 acre mature farmland in Usa River between Arusha city and Kilimanjaro International Airport. With the world renowned Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro all nearby, the hotel is also the ideal starting point for safaris and excursions.

The plans provide for a total of 200 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a conference centre for 400 guests, a spa complex and an 18-hole golf course.

Eearlier this year, during the Indaba, Africa’s top travel show, it was announced that Holiday Inn Arusha will also open its doors. The hotel will be marketed by African Sun Hotels, the fastest growing hospitality group in sub-Saharan Africa, who launched at Indaba ambitious plans to increase its capacity by 4000 hotel beds. The greatly anticipated Holiday Inn Arusha will open early next year on the place where Novotol Mount Meru used to be. It claims that it will offer everything – an extensive business centre, state of the art board rooms, a range of meeting and conference rooms, and array of different restaurants and a spa.

Last year, the Kempinski group announced the purchase of Hotel 77 – Saba Saba and the opening of Kempinski Arusha on those grounds.

These 3 new 5 star hotel openings, will help Arusha to keep its image which it had for centuries, being the meeting point midway between Cairo and Capetown.

Onsea House in Arusha will differentiate from these big 5 star hotels with its boutique size, personal service and intimate top quality restaurant.

2 years after both the previous edition and the opening of Onsea House, we are now listed in the Guide to Accommodation in Tanzania of this popular Guide book and also online as “A new lovely place self-described with some accurracy as the ‘best luxury bed and breakfast in Arusha’. Each room has its own theme, there’s a bar and small restaurant, and gardens. Very tranquil and classy…” (p. 201).
Onsea House is among the few recommended places on the East side of Arusha and the closest of the hotels outside the city center.
