“The top fine dining experience in Tanzania” according to Bradt

We were delighted to host Philip Briggs during his trip in Tanzania. As the renown author of a series of pioneering Bradt Travel Guides including the first dedicated guidebooks to Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana and Rwanda, we are honored that he handpicked our accommodation for his stay in Arusha at the end of his Tanzanian safari.

Together with Chris McIntyre, author and co-author of many Bradt guides and Managing Director of the reputable safari company Expert Africa, they are the authors of 2 of the just published Bradt Travel Guides: “Northern Tanzania: Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar (3rd edition)” and “Tanzania Safari Guide with Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and the coast” (7th edition)

We are thrilled with the glowing reviews about Onsea House and Machweo in these newest Bradt Travel Guides.

Both Onsea House and Machweo stand out as only recommended Exclusive hotels in the area mentioned in the Bradt Tanzania Safari Guide and the Bradt Northern Tanzania guide.

Most striking is the description of being “widely regarded as offering the top fine dining experience in Tanzania” and being mentioned as only recommendable place to eat around Arusha in both travel guide books.

“Bookings are mandatory for those not staying at the hotel” is also mentioned correctly. Call on 0787/112.498 to book a table.

Journeys into the bush on Nat Geo Wild

Tonight was the Première of “Journeys into the bush”, the episode on safari adventurer Jean du Plessis’ favourite spots in Tanzania on Nat Geo Wild – Ultimate Africa: Game Rangers

His trip is put into jeopardy by the eruption of the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. We truely enjoyed to re-discover this area, which we flew over at the time of the eruption and wich we visited again few weeks ago. The episode further highlights the famous African wild dogs around Suyan Camp and the Gol Mountains in the Loliondo area, followed by the spectacular Wildebeest Migration in the Northern Serengeti around (the now completely renewed) Sayari Camp, which we will visit again this weekend! Another feature is the hunting trip joining the Hadzabe bushmen around Lake Eyasi and our favourite Kisima Ngeda Tented camp, located close to kopjes overlooking the lake. The episode ends with a scenic canoe trip on Lake Manyara, one of the many activities offered by Jean’s company.

Jean du Plessis and his company Wayo Africa, trading as Green Footprint Adventures Ltd, recommend Onsea House as probably the best and most personal guesthouse in Arusha. Contact info@onseahouse.com for any further info on Onsea House and/or safari with Wayo Africa.

“Journeys to Africa” next showing on Monday 12 October at 11am at Nat Geo Wild UK. The 10 episodes will be broadcasted again from 19 to 29 October. Don’t miss it.

Best South African wines on Premium Wine List

The arrival of the Villiera Monro Brut 2003, probably South Africa’s best Methode Cap Clasique and among the best bubbles in the world, marks the festive launch of the new Onsea House Premium Wine List.

Next to the premium wines from Boekenhoutskloof, their second label Porcupine Ridge and The Wolftrap, which we featured for the first time in Tanzania on a winelist, we expect a whole range of 90 and + rated wines by Wine Spectator and 4,5 to 5 stars in the John Platter South African Wine Guide 2009.

Top red blends include the 5 star Kaapzicht Steytler Vision Cape Blend 2005, Wine Spectator rated Meerlust Rubicon 2004 and very affordable Kanonkop Kadette.
Unique single varieties include Kanonkop Pinotage 2006, without any doubt one of the best wines in its class, and the best Pinot Noirs from South Africa: Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2005 and Hamilton Russell Vineyards Pinot Noir 2006, which will perfectly match the fine dining at Onsea House.
Super premium white wines include Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay 2007.
