Best Spa Retreat in Arusha and Runner Up in Tanzania

Machweo has been Finalist for the 2nd consecutive year as Best Safari Spa / Retreat in Africa and is the only property in the Arusha area who made it into the Finals of the 2017 Safari Awards, even with 2 Finalist positions.

It has just been announced that Machweo made it during the 10th Safari Awards even to the “Runner Up” position in the whole of Tanzania (incl. Zanzibar). This Silver medal is a great seal of approval of the Machweo Wellness Retreat which we opened in 2011, ahead of the trend of Wellness Travel to Africa, as mentioned recently in the World Travel Market Global Trends Report.

Do not hesitate to contact us to include a stay at Machweo into your retreat safari holiday in Tanzania.

Wellness in the wilderness

“Safaris and spas create a sweet spot for Africa” according to the WTM Global Trends Report 2016.

Africa’s tourism industry is ideally placed to benefit from current interests in wellness travel. According to the report, safari holidays – one of Africa’s most important segments – are increasingly including yoga, spa, and meditation as part of the itinerary.

This is great news for Machweo Wellness Retreat & Fine Dining that got again for the 2nd year in a row a Finalist position in the 2017 Safari Awards as “Best Safari Spa / Retreat” and “Best Location”.

Wellness in the wilderness

The idea of “wellness in the wilderness” also resonates with travellers seeking unique and authentic experience, resulting in a demand for spiritual travel with an adventure component.

Furthermore, the Global Wellness Summit found that in 2014, wellness travel – defined as travel with a purpose of improving health and wellbeing – was growing at 74% more than regular global travel.

Another factor in the rise of Africa’s tourism is the emphasis on sustainable and reduced footprint holidays, with increasing importance placed on ensuring the benefits of tourism are directly and indirectly shared with the local economy.

Caroline Bremner, Euromonitor International head of travel, said: “Time spent with loved ones, including oneself, was consistently ranked as most important by respondents in our 2015 Global Consumer Trends Survey. Time is becoming crucial in a world where everything moves fast, so a safari in the middle of nowhere with loved ones is the ultimate form of wellness travel.”

Mindfulness travel

Mindfulness travel is a fairly new concept that looks to capitalise on the emotional and spiritual benefits of tourism. It is complementary to the wellness trend and is another opportunity for Africa.

The great animal migration in Tanzania could be the focus of a wellness or mindfulness travel experience.

World Travel Market, senior director, Simon Press said: “Wellness in the wilderness combines a number of emerging travel and consumer trends, and Africa lends itself to adventure and relaxation in a natural environment which can also satisfy the demand from travellers for a sustainable and responsible experience”.

“The top fine dining experience in Tanzania” according to Bradt

We were delighted to host Philip Briggs during his trip in Tanzania. As the renown author of a series of pioneering Bradt Travel Guides including the first dedicated guidebooks to Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana and Rwanda, we are honored that he handpicked our accommodation for his stay in Arusha at the end of his Tanzanian safari.

Together with Chris McIntyre, author and co-author of many Bradt guides and Managing Director of the reputable safari company Expert Africa, they are the authors of 2 of the just published Bradt Travel Guides: “Northern Tanzania: Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar (3rd edition)” and “Tanzania Safari Guide with Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar and the coast” (7th edition)

We are thrilled with the glowing reviews about Onsea House and Machweo in these newest Bradt Travel Guides.

Both Onsea House and Machweo stand out as only recommended Exclusive hotels in the area mentioned in the Bradt Tanzania Safari Guide and the Bradt Northern Tanzania guide.

Most striking is the description of being “widely regarded as offering the top fine dining experience in Tanzania” and being mentioned as only recommendable place to eat around Arusha in both travel guide books.

“Bookings are mandatory for those not staying at the hotel” is also mentioned correctly. Call on 0787/112.498 to book a table.
