On arrival Wednesday evening, Mr. Ban met with South Africa’s Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dhlamini-Zuma and on Thursday will hold talks with President Kgalema Motlanthe and with United Nations staff.

The Secretary-General will then travel to Tanzania, one of the pilot countries for the reform programme known as “Delivering as One” that aims to coordinate all UN efforts on the ground.

He will hold discussions with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, as well as address the diplomatic and academic community in Dar es Salaam.

Mr. Ban is also due to fly over the receding ice cap of Mount Kilimanjaro on Friday on his way to the city of Arusha to visit the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda on Friday afternoon 27 February 2009.

From Tanzania, the Secretary-General will head to the DRC where he will meet with President Joseph Kabila and others, moving on to Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province, to visit Panzi Hospital, where victims of sexual violence are cared for.

Then, in the North Kivu provincial capital of Goma, he will meet with members of the UN peacekeeping mission (MONUC) and with local authorities.

In Rwanda, Mr. Ban will meet with President Paul Kagame.

Finally, he will travel to the Egyptian seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he will participate in the 2 March meeting entitled, “International Conference in support of the Palestinian Economy, for the reconstruction of Gaza,” co-chaired by Egypt and Norway.

Ethiopian Airlines offering free tickets to Africa

Time published some Valentine’s Deals That You’ll Love, including special travel deals.
To celebrate Barack Obama’s Inauguration, Ethiopian Airlines is offering a free companion ticket to any of its 32 destinations in Africa, including Kilimanjaro Airport (Tanzania), from Washington’s Dulles Airport.

Traditionally speaking, flights to Africa can be amongst the most expensive you’ll find, and there are seldom deals to be found when flying there. But right now this “buy 1, get 1 free” promotion makes it more affordable than ever to make the trip.

The promotion is good from February 1st through March 31st 2009. Simply book a ticket before the 30th of March, and you receive one companion fare for free. 800-445-2733
The only restriction, other than the dates of the promotion, is that your stay can not be longer than 21 days.

Combining this promotion with low season rates in April and May and/or using Onsea House as “home base” in Arusha could make for a low cost safari, Kilimanjaro climb and/or Zanzibar beach holiday. Grab your tickets while you can!

Contact info@onseahouse.com for all travel advise to Tanzania: from the moment you arrive at Kilimanjaro airport until you get back on the plane.

Safari bookings to Tanzania to go up in 2009

The year 2009 is ushering in brisk business for tour operators booking safaris to Tanzania, stakeholders in the US have said in recent reports.

Their optimism contradicts local players in the sector who have in recent months been reporting a slump in business.
They are also predicting a drop in tourism receipts in the wake of the economic recession in major source markets of tourists to the country.

The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) is, however, optimistic that Tanzania will weather the financial crisis storm in the travel industry.
“In a year when people are conscious about cost/value, Tanzania offers an excellent travel experience where the dollar buys much more than is available in other countries.

America is Tanzania’s number one source of tourism. We are encouraged by the positive feedback we have received that this growth will continue even during a challenging economic climate,” Tanzania Tourist Board said recently.

US Tour Operators have seen no evidence of a travel slowdown when it comes to Tanzania.
“While the media was filled with doom and gloom for the past few months about the US economy in general,” she says, “right after the elections and the holidays we resumed normal -if not higher- quote requests on bookings to Tanzania.
“People see that the sky isn’t falling; they know that Tanzania is a beautiful and peaceful country (we have never had a problem in any part of Tanzania), and they’re ready again for a good travel experience.”

An recent article in USA Today (December 2008) stated Tanzania as “One of the Top Two Safari Destinations in the world”.
Voice of America told listeners (January 2009) that “the price structure in Tanzania now, combined with its beauty, make it the must-go-to destination this year. Take advantage of its good deals while you can!”

US operators note that their sales of safari packages to Tanzania are also brisk.
“Few people are cancelling or postponing for economic reasons. We are more than pleased. People aren’t putting their lives on hold.”
“Many Americans are fulfilling a dream in keeping and creating travel plans to Tanzania”.

TTB confirms that they expect to hold or increase the market share in 2009 as a result of “the increase in hi-end accommodations to meet the demand of the luxury travel segment and improved air access combined with ongoing advertising on CNN and other US media.”

Onsea House got as intimate high-end hotel accommodation and tourist agent in Arusha, an increasing number of demands compared to the same period last year. Do not wait too long to book your trip, including a stay at Onsea House in Arusha! Contact info@onseahouse.com for further information.
