Frommer’s top pick in Arusha

Frommer’s Travel Guides are one of the bestselling guidebooks in the USA. The series began in 1957 with the publication of Arthur Frommer’s first book. The latest entry in this popular series of travel guides contains full-color fold-out maps, suggested itineraries, and frank reviews of recommended sites to visit.

Frommer’s Kenya & Tanzania claims to be the only major guidebook to cover both of these countries in detail. A lot of international tourists arriving in Tanzania come from Kenya, so the convenience of having one book for both countries is a significant selling point.

Written by a trio of writers, two of whom currently live in Africa and a third who lived in Tanzania for years, Frommer’s has opinionated write-ups. No bland descriptions and lukewarm recommendations. The expert writers are passionate about their destinations–tell it like it is in an engaging and helpful way. We are therefore very pleased that Onsea House is Frommer’s top pick in the Arusha hotels section. Also the intimate candle-lit terrace at Onsea House is described as Arusha’s finest dining experience in the Arusha restaurant section.

Selected as top accommodation in Arusha by National Geographic

National Geographic Expeditions, the travel program of the National Geographic Society, was founded in 1999 on the same belief in the importance of exploration that has been the hallmark of the Society’s 121-year history.

Their program now includes a 13 day Private Safari in Tanzania, accompanied by expert guides, a visit of Serengeti National Park and Selous Game Reserve. For the overnights during the safari, National Geographic Expeditions “selected top accommodations that combine luxury and location with the unique character of a place”. Onsea House is the selected Arusha accommodation.

National Geographic Expeditions now operates more than 300 trips each year, spanning all seven continents and more than 40 countries. Founded in 1888, the National Geographic Society is one of the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations. It reaches more than 300 million people each month through National Geographic magazine and four other magazines, the National Geographic Channel, television documentaries, radio programs, films, books, videos, maps, and interactive media. The Society has funded nearly 8,000 scientific research projects and supports an education program combating geographic illiteracy.

Luxurious Mobile Safari Experience in East Africa

Singita Grumeti Reserves has launched a one-of-a-kind luxury tented safari, ideal for small groups or families, in its expansive Tanzania reserve. Beginning November 2010, guests can overnight under the stars in mobile accommodations styled after the charm and romanticism of Africa’s bygone days.

Nestled between the Serengeti National Park and the Maasai Mara, the mobile safari offers access to remote and unspoiled African bush, where one can truly experience the majesty of nature. Big five game viewing is unmatched. Similar as in Onsea House, dining is a highlight, in this case simply crafted, fresh cuisine in the bush along with a choice of fine, hand-picked wines. When it comes time to turn in for the night, guests can relax and unwind in luxurious, comfortable tents.

The mobile safari is designed for exclusive use by groups of between six and twelve people for two or more nights. The all-inclusive price is $8,100 per night for a party of six and $1,350 per night for each additional guest. For the ultimate safari experience, any visit can easily be combined with a stay at one of Singita Grumeti Reserves’ three other luxurious properties: flagship Singita Sasakwa Lodge, contemporary Singita Faru Faru Lodge on the Grumeti River, and the 1920s styled Singita Sabora Tented Camp.
