We Are From Belgium: woensdag 6 januari 10

Onsea House is binnenkort te zien op de Belgische Televisie, op Eén, in We Are From Belgium. De nieuwe reeks, die op 25 november van start ging, zit volgens TV-visie met 704.387 kijkers meteen op een mooie 7de plaats.

Naast de algemene besprekingen in De Standaard en Knack, wordt er alvast een tipje van de sluier gelicht van de Tanzania aflevering op de Showbizzsite.

Omwille van het samenvallen van een voetbalmatch en het Groot dictee der Nederlandse taal op 16 dec, is er die dag geen We Are From Belgium. En dat is net de dag dat onze reportage oorspronkelijk gepland was. Het uitzendschema is wat dooreengehaald en de nieuwe datum voor onze aflevering is 6 januari (21:30-22:05). Een mooi begin van het nieuwe jaar!

We are from Belgium leeft trouwens niet alleen op televisie, maar ook op het internet. Op de website van Eén vertelt Annick Ruyts over haar ervaringen in een eigen videodagboek. In persoonlijke ‘annickdotes’ gunt ze de kijkers een blik achter de schermen van het televisieprogramma. Zo vertelt ze o.a. hoe ze bij haar vlucht naar Tanzania ei zo na gearresteerd werd…

Nederlandse Lingo presentatrice Lucille te gast

Tijdens haar trip naar Tanzania is Lucille Werner in een Afrikaans televisieprogramma beland, zo meldt Boulevard Nieuws vandaag.

De bekende Nederlandse TROS Lingo presentatrice is momenteel in het Afrikaanse continent om Lingo in het Swahili op te nemen. In de populaire ochtendshow Jambo Tanzania mocht Werner haar werkzaamheden toelichten.

Werner zet zich in voor een project om jongeren in Tanzania bekend te maken met het televisievak. De jongeren volgen een opleiding aan het Kilimanjaro Film Institute, vlakbij Onsea House. “Het is een hele ervaring om hier te zijn en te zien hoe jonge Afrikanen de ambitie hebben een goede televisiemaker te worden. Ze geloven helemaal in Lingo”, vertelt Werner.

Werner hoopt tevens de Afrikaanse aflevering van Lingo te kunnen slijten aan landen waar Swahili wordt gesproken, om zo de laaggeletterdheid aan te pakken. Om het plaatje zo echt mogelijk te maken namen Werner en haar productieteam de echte computer en ballen van Lingo mee.

Lucille Werner is eerstdaags bij Onsea House in Arusha te gast, samen met onze vriendelijk buur en trouwe klant Rik Felderhof, die Lucille al eerder op bezoek had in zijn Villa Felderhof.

Rwanda gets ready to welcome more safari guests from Tanzania

The Mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, the endless views on tea plantations, the pretty hills and lakes, Intore dancing and traditional drummers, its people and its culture are among the additional features when extending a safari & beach holiday in Tanzania with a couple of days in Rwanda.

“The future of Rwanda’s tourism industry looks brighter” reported The New Times already in October. Statistics show that the country has now 4225 hotel rooms compared to 3438 last year, representing a record increase of 23 percent in the number of hotel rooms.

The expansion of Kigali Serena Hotel and Hotel Des Mille Collines have greatly boosted the number of rooms. The Onsea House owners familiarized with both hotels and witnessed today the finishing of the first phase of the extension and refurbhisment of Kigali Serena Hotel. The new swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam bath are fully functioning. The ultra modern 2 storey fitness centre and 44 new guestrooms will officially open next week.

The developments come at a time when Rwanda needs about 6,000 rooms by 2012 to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.

Also the new RwandAir national airline gets ready to fly in more people with attractive flights from Kilimanjaro at US$ 190, which is not more than a flight to the Serengeti or Zanzibar. While flying a longer distance, the flight time is limited to just 1 hour thanks to the modern Canadair Regional Jet.Â
RwandAir has a code share agreement with Brussels Airlines on the Kigali – Brussels Sector, Ethiopian on the Kigali – Addis Ababa Sector. For connections into Tanzania, RwandAir flies to Kilimanjaro offering connections to the rest of the country in code share with Precisonair Tanzania Limited.

Looking for another reason to climb Kilimanjaro soon?

Climbing Kilimanjaro will most likely get another boost soon, thanks to the massive media attention today.

The snows capping Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak, are shrinking rapidly and could vanish altogether in less than 20 years, most likely due to global warming, a US study published Monday said.

The news was published online by AFP and Reuters news agencies and the well respected magazine Nature on Tuesday morning and rapidly taken over by mass media including CNN, National Geographic, New York Times, Time, The Times and many others in the past 24 hours.

More than 85 per cent of the ice that covered the three peaks of Africa’s highest mountain has disappeared in the last 100 years and the rest is melting at such a rate it will be gone by 2030, maybe even by 2022.

The disappearance of the ice-cap will alter one of the world’s most arresting images – elephants and giraffes trekking across the shimmering Tanzanian plains with the ice-capped peaks of the mountain in the distance.
