Our newest addition to the team of Onsea House and Machweo is Operations Manager, Ms.Eline Janssens, who will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5.895 metres is the tallest mountain of the African continent.

It will be a 7-day expedition, following the Rongai route and starting off on the 24th of February.
Eline dedicates her climb to a dear friend suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. In association with her climb, she is organizing a small fundraising, to support the non-profit foundation AGDEM (Asociación Gaditana de Esclerosis Múltiple), located in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
Multiple Sclerosis, also known as “MS” is a chronic disease of the main nervous system that causes uncontrollable contractions of the muscles and therefore causing terrible pain. It is the most common neurological disease for young adults and the main cause of disability after traffic accidents.

The foundation AGDEM helps and assists people afflicted with MS, not only with rehabilitation but also with pshycological support, research and training activities. The rehabilitation treatment they offer is of great value in improving the quality of life to those affected by MS and is necessary during their whole lives.
You can support this non-profit organization in order for them to continue their precious work with any contribution you are willing to make

Contributions can be made to:
Asociación Gaditana de Esclerosis Múltiple
11403 Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz)
Bank address: Avda. Méjico, esq. Comte. Paz Valera
IBAN: ES52 2024 0418 6033 0000 1411
SWIFT:CECA ESMM 024

We wish Eline a safe climb and hope that this small fundraising can somehow make a difference in the lives of all those who are climbing their “own mountain” every single day

Contact info@onseahouse.com for further advise on climbing Kilimanjaro and/or specific info on a charity climb for a good cause.

The NY Mets starting pitcher R. A. Dickey, together with Kevin Slowey and Dave Racaniello, have just been climbing and reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for the Bombay Teen Challenge, an organization that rescues and cares for women and girls in Mumbai who are at risk of being abused and exploited.

USA Today, New York Times, NY Daily News, NBC Sports and many others covered the story before and after the charity climb. On January 5, R.A. Dickey reported with the article In the Presence of the Mountain in the New York Times about their stay in “Onsea House, a charming boutique hotel in Arusha, Tanzania, where we would rest and recover before our excursion.” and tweeted a picture of Mount Meru taken from his room.

The 3 American baseball stars enjoyed their 2 nights before and 1 night after the climb at Onsea House so much that they booked last minute an extra night at Onsea House and its Machweo Wellness Retreat & Fine Dining after their safari, before flying back to the USA.

Bring hope: support R.A. Dickey’s Climb for Freedom and join the cause on Bombay Teen Challenge.
Contact info@onseahouse.com for further info on climbing Kilimanjaro including rest and recover days before and after the excursion at Onsea House.

During their first trip to Africa, Scott and Rebecca Rothney learned that while they were limited to 20kg of luggage on safari, the airline had an allowance of 100 pounds (45 kgs) of checked luggage plus a 40 pound (18.14 kg) carry-on. In making plans for a second trip, they looked into visiting a school near the lodge they would visit. They contacted their safari company to see if they could determine any specific needs of that school. Armed with that information, they were able to deliver 140 pounds (64 kgs) of school supplies, including soccer balls, to the school. It was enormously rewarding to be able to help the people in the community that had given them such a life-changing experience. That’s how the idea for the Pack for a Purpose website came up.

Onsea House is currently one of the only 11 properties in Tanzania that joined the Pack for a Purpose. With your help, you can make the life better of more than 1400 children of the Baraa Primary School, located within walking distance from Onsea House in Arusha.

GoodMakers taught a digital Film Lab in Tanzania which was hosted by Onsea House in Arusha. The Film Lab students, many of whom came from as far away as Dar Es Salaam, participated in shooting a travel promo for Onsea House which helped the students to learn the process of making a commercial. The students helped to plan the concept, learned how to operate new digital cameras and even took an editing bootcamp to round out their one week course. GoodMakers Films fabulous editor Craig Fields, edited it together into a concise :60 promo. Together with GoodMakers Films, we are incredibly proud of the film students and the results.

Have a look at the promo here on YouTube: Onsea House Promo Video.

GoodMakers Films is also finalizing the editing of a Short Doc for the iThemba Baraa Primary School, which will highlight progress of this NGO project in the neighberhood, supported by iThemba Foundation in collaboration with Onsea House.
