3rd consecutive TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence

For the 3 consecutive year, Onsea House has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence award. The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.

To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall excellent rating, as reviewed by travellers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

“Onsea House is pleased to receive a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence,” said Chef-Manager Axel Janssens. “We strive to offer our customers a memorable experience, and this accolade is evidence that our hard work is translating into positive traveller reviews on TripAdvisor. With almost 100 reviews since our opening, Onsea House remains also one of the most and best reviewed places in Arusha.”

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honor exceptional businesses for consistent excellence, as reviewed by travellers on the site,” said Christine Petersen, president of TripAdvisor for Business. “The Certificate of Excellence award gives highly rated establishments around the world the recognition they deserve. From exceptional accommodations in Beijing to remarkable restaurants in Boston, we want to applaud these businesses for offering TripAdvisor travellers a great customer experience.”

Nominated for the 2012 Safari Awards

With over three thousand safari lodges, camps and mobile safari operators in Africa there is a need to differentiate between those that provide an average or bad safari experience and the few who exceed expectations. It is not a question of luxury, but of the ‘safari experience’ from your arrival on a remote airstrip to the revelation of the wilderness and how it works by your professional safari guide.

Accommodation and cuisine are a vital element to the enjoyment of any safari. The purpose of The Safari Awards is to recognise excellence amongst the very best safari lodges and operators in Africa.

For the 3rd consecutive year, Onsea House is nominated for the Safari Awards. We were voted in 2010 as one of “Traveller’s Choice Best Safari Properties in Africa”, followed as Finalist for the “Best Safari Cuisine” in 2011.

Both Machweo Wellness Retreat & Onsea House have been nominated for 2012 as “Best Safari Spa” and “Best Safari Cuisine”. Again we are the only properties in Arusha and one of the very few in Tanzania who have been nominated for these prestigious awards!

Cultural Fundraiser – 10 April 2012

You are cordially invited to an evening of fine wine, good food and classical music. The Nanapai Trust is proud to present Mitra Alice Tham, a pianist, composer and arranger whose training began at three and whose international career began at the age of eight, in Japan. The recipient of full scholarships for the Purcell School of Music, Hertfordshire, the Royal Academy of Music, London, and the Mannes School of Music, New York, Mitra has toured widely in Asia, Australia, Europe, United States and Great Britain.

Mitra Alice’s performances exhibit her special talent of composing live on stage. She has been featured extensively on television throughout Asia, and her concerts have been broadcast on national radio in the UK. She has performed in front of such luminary dignitaries as the late President of Singapore and HRH The Prince of Wales, who in an interview on national radio described her performance as both ‘brilliant and excellent’.

Mitra will be performing at Onsea House on the 10th of April after a dinner prepared by their Michelin-trained Chef and Sommelier Axel Janssens. Proceeds will go to the Nanapai Trust, which provides Medical, Technical, IT and Micro-Business Consultancy Services to the residents of Ngorongoro, Kisongo and Lakes Natron and Eyasi regions.  This is the first of several planned Cultural-Conscience Concerts, which aim to offer value-added peripheral activities to the clientele of hotels in Arusha and tour operators. Future fund-raising concerts are planned in London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore and Melbourne.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for a cause

Our newest addition to the team of Onsea House and Machweo is Operations Manager, Ms.Eline Janssens, who will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5.895 metres is the tallest mountain of the African continent.

It will be a 7-day expedition, following the Rongai route and starting off on the 24th of February.
Eline dedicates her climb to a dear friend suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. In association with her climb, she is organizing a small fundraising, to support the non-profit foundation AGDEM (Asociación Gaditana de Esclerosis Múltiple), located in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
Multiple Sclerosis, also known as “MS” is a chronic disease of the main nervous system that causes uncontrollable contractions of the muscles and therefore causing terrible pain. It is the most common neurological disease for young adults and the main cause of disability after traffic accidents.

The foundation AGDEM helps and assists people afflicted with MS, not only with rehabilitation but also with pshycological support, research and training activities. The rehabilitation treatment they offer is of great value in improving the quality of life to those affected by MS and is necessary during their whole lives.
You can support this non-profit organization in order for them to continue their precious work with any contribution you are willing to make

Contributions can be made to:
Asociación Gaditana de Esclerosis Múltiple

We wish Eline a safe climb and hope that this small fundraising can somehow make a difference in the lives of all those who are climbing their “own mountain” every single day

Baseball celebrities successfully climb Kilimanjaro after rest at Onsea House.

The NY Mets starting pitcher R. A. Dickey, together with Kevin Slowey and Dave Racaniello, have just been climbing and reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for the Bombay Teen Challenge, an organization that rescues and cares for women and girls in Mumbai who are at risk of being abused and exploited.

USA TodayNew York Times, NY Daily News, NBC Sports and many others covered the story before and after the charity climb. On January 5, R.A. Dickey reported with the article In the Presence of the Mountain in the New York Times about their stay in “Onsea House, a charming boutique hotel in Arusha, Tanzania, where we would rest and recover before our excursion.” and tweeted a picture of Mount Meru taken from his room

The 3 American baseball stars enjoyed their 2 nights before and 1 night after the climb at Onsea House so much that they booked last minute an extra night at Onsea House and its Machweo Wellness Retreat & Fine Dining after their safari, before flying back to the USA.

Bring hope: support R.A. Dickey’s Climb for Freedom and join the cause on Bombay Teen Challenge.
